A brand new type of cutting structure is being used in our extreme duty core bits and turbine drill bits with very good results. We put a sharp edge on the leading edge of each "pod" into which we set our HPI (High Pressure Impreg) inserts that have about twice the concentration of diamond grit as our normal LPI (Low Pressure Impreg) material used in our usual XDS shoes.

This HPI cutting is intended in burning shoes to enable cutting of cement or formation with the sharp edges and still maintain an impact resistant diamond cutting structure that can cut carbide like is found in hardbanding.
